GetWiki:Custom Links(software, help, original, Proteus)
GetWiki uses custom external links to remote sites you can use, as well as links in the form of
[[Community:GetWiki]], instead of pasting the entire url into your text. These links, some stored in the database and sometimes called "interwiki" links, are a wonderful invention. However, on local Wikis, like
GetWiki, the link above could even link to the local namespace, if set, rather than the external Wiki on a remote server. Use the same WikText above on another Wiki, though, and your article will link to something else. Not surprisingly, InterWiki links are hardly used (and here the term is even used in a slightly
different sense).
Listed below are the links as included in the latest
GetWiki release and version. We can add or remove InterWiki and InterLanguage entries as necessary, those which are wrong, outmoded, and so on. Some of the entries were surely no longer needed, some are new, like "Community", "GetWiki" or "Freshmeat". After the entry can be verified as useful to a large Wiki audience, your changes will be included or removed from the next release version of GetWiki. You can also customize the list for your own Wiki at any time, of course, but some users may regard a few links, such as to the original Wiki as "legacy", or not to be removed.
External Links
GetWiki allows "http" and "https" links, but adds "ftp" links as well. These links, requiring the http, https or ftp protocol prefixes, link to external sites and images, and GetWiki takes care not to nest the link's "a" element when
[http://test.org http://test.org] formatting is used. For examples:

InterWiki Links
Linking to other Wikis and resources around the internet without having to know their
URLs is a big help, as well as linking to our own Wiki. The custom local InterWiki cross-links for GetWiki are demonstrated below (ie. "gw" is an InterWiki link, while "GetWiki" would be used on other Wikis). The full list, as included in the database, follows in the next secton.
